How to customize the lock screen in Windows 10

H

The first thing you see when you start your Windows 10 device is the Lock screen. When you turn on your Windows PC, the lock screen is displayed; when the computer is in the sleeping mode, and then you turn it on, then it displays the lock screen; when you leave your computer unused for a while, and then you’re using it again, you’ll see the lock screen. Since you get to see this screen so often, it’s nice to have an interesting background image on it and that’s why, in this article, we show you how to customize it.

1. Use a favorite image as a backdrop for Windows 10 lock screen

The most obvious way to customize the Lock Screen in Windows 10 is to change its default background to your favorite image. In Windows 10, open the Settings app. A quick way to do this is to click the Settings button at the bottom left of the Start Menu. Then, click on Personalization.

On the left side of the Customization window, click Lock screen.

The background for the Lock screen is displayed at the top of the window. By default, the background should be set as Image. If it is not, but you want to use your favorite image as a background for the lock screen, make sure you select the Picture option.

Here you find some default background image options and the latest backgrounds you’ve used. Click on one of these small tiles to select that image, or click Browse to choose an image from your photo collection.

Navigate through your collection of images to find the one you prefer and select it by clicking the Choose Picture button.

Now, in the Preview section, you should see the new image you selected.

From now on, the Lock screen will use the image you selected as the background.

2. Show all your favorite pictures as a slide show on Windows 10

Windows 10 also has an option called Slideshow. To turn it on, open the Settings app and go to “Personalize -> Lock Screen,” as I pointed out in the first section of this article. Then, tap the Wallpaper menu and choose Slideshow.

Click “+ Add Folder” to choose the folders containing the images you want to add to the presentation.

You can use one or more folders as albums in the presentation and you can see them all listed in the list called “Choose Albums for Your Slideshow”. If you want to remove one of the folders, click on it and then the Remove button.

For more customization methods, just under the “Choose Albums for Your Slideshow” list, you can click the link called “Advanced Slideshow Settings”. In the section that opens when you click on the link, you have the following options:

• If you enable the first option, the exposure will use the images that are stored in the Camera Album folders on your PC and your OneDrive.
• If you enable the second option, the exposure will only use the photos that fit your screen.
• The third option allows you to choose if the exposure is displayed also “when the [device] is powered by the battery.”
• The fourth option lets you choose if your PC displays the lock screen or it stops the screen when it is idle.
• At the end, you have a list where you can select the time after which the screen stops.

Set up these options according to your preferences.
