How to install the Iridium browser in Trisquel Linux

H

Iridium is a browser based on the Chromium project, who has the declared purpose to respect and restore online privacy to their users.

It forces websites to stop tracking the users browsing data. The Iridium team has modified the code to ensure that privacy is respected.

Because Iridium is based on Chromium, you can use any of the Chrome Web Store plugins.

Iridium is available on most Linux distributions: Debian, Linux Mint, Ubuntu, openSUSE, Fedora, RHEL, CentOS, etc.

Trisquel is a Linux distribution that uses an entirely free version of the Linux kernel, distributed by the Linux-free project under the GNU license.

The main purpose of this project is to produce an operating system built entirely from freelancing free software, which is easy to use, complete and well-translated, user-friendly, modified and distributed entirely for free.
The name of the Trisquel project comes from the Celtic triscel symbol, which consists of three folded legs or, more generally, three interconnected spirals. This logo describes a triscel made from the union of three Debian spirals in recognition of the project on which it is based.

Although it was developed initially as a Debian-based distribution, starting with version 2.0 released in the summer of 2008, the software is based on Ubuntu. The project hosts its own repositories that are derived from the main and universal Ubuntu repositories with all proprietary programs excluded. Among the differences are the deletion of non-free packages, replacing the Linux paid kernel with the Linux free version that does not contain binary without source code and the addition of other packages.

The main difference is the strict filter that Trisquel applies to program packages that can be distributed, thus respecting the Free Software Foundation rule that specifies the exclusion of non-free programs that violate the user’s four freedoms. This commitment leads to the deletion of binaries without published source code from repositories and also to the refusal to provide forum support or documentation for non-free programs.

Three long-term editions are available for download.

Trisquel Main

The main edition of the distribution is intended for home use and includes network, multimedia, graphics, a suite of office applications and games. It also includes a multimedia application that can automatically play digital video records and most video and audio formats.

Trisquel Edu

The Trisquel Edu edition is recommended in school laboratories, it also supports digital whiteboards that use an LCD projector, a Nintendo remote control, and free programs tailored to replace costly devices.

Trisquel Pro

Trisquel Pro is an operating system designed to be used in small business. It contains a lot of management programs, including Abanq, OpenbravoPOS and GNUCash.

Trisquel can be installed on a hard disk using the selected desktop installer or can be launched directly from the disk.
